“A Brain with Latin American Science and Conscience”

This initiative represents a collective effort across Latin America aimed at fostering and advancing research on the brain.

Over the past two decades, there has been a marked increase worldwide—and particularly within our region—in diseases associated with the nervous system.

The COVID-19 pandemic has further exposed, in stark terms, the profound inequalities present in our countries. Moreover, these disparities have deepened in recent years in areas such as education, the economy, and social integration, among others. All these dimensions, directly or indirectly, have generated a significant state of uncertainty that has impacted both the physical and mental health of the general population. Knowledge stands as the only truly effective tool that enables us to better understand neurological pathologies and to propose innovative, more effective treatments. Only through collaborative and integrative efforts can we, as a community of neuroscientists, generate knowledge and resources that produce meaningful impact across our societies.

We recognize that each of our countries possesses unique needs, specific strengths, and areas requiring improvement. From the standpoint of science, we are able to produce accurate, high-quality information and knowledge that provide essential inputs for other institutions and civil society actors to utilize in informed decision-making.

Our collective mission is to generate new knowledge for the prevention, treatment, and cure of brain diseases, and to develop new technologies while promoting changes in education, culture, the economy, and other areas of social life. Complex problems demand complex actions, which can only be successfully undertaken through collaborative work.
